GPS Navigational System? Eh, Ill keep my maps, thanks.

Not quite a year ago, my dad got himself one of those Garmin GPS whatsits. Took it with him on his buisness travels, came home singing its praises.
He hooked it up before we headed to the OBX. I was curious as to why, because we've been here before, surely he knew the way.

"I just want to see which way it takes us" He said.

Ok, fine.

It took us from 85 to 40 via the Raliegh Durahm area. During an evilish traffic Jam on 40 due to construction, I pulled out my road atlas to find an alternate route around it. After all, GPS's dont usually take things like that into consideration. This one didnt, anyway.

Eventually we did make it through, and I kept my road atlas out just in case.

The trouble started a little further down i40. It lead us through some twisty-turny route via Ralieghs inner loop, and then dumped us back on 40. Eventually I figured out what it was doing.

Next up was Highway 64. From there it was a straight shot to the OBX. Yay!

Or not. Later, I glanced up from my book just in time to see the handy GPS take us somewhere else. A few more twists and turns, another highway (My sister can now say she has been to Nashville, by the way...she doesnt have to mention which state), we were finally on highway 158. Another straight shot, this one ended up further north on the Banks.

No funky detours this time.

No GPS for me. I dont want some bitty computer telling me where to go and hollering at me ("Please make a legal U-Turn") when I opt to go the other way. Im okay with my maps.
